Alicante (in Valencian and Catalan: Alacant) is the capital of the province of Alicante, located in Valencia in southeastern Spain, bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Alicante is an important port and a population of 322,431 inhabitants in 2006 (325,797 according to the Statistics Department of the City Hall in 2005). The town of Alicante has 434,505 inhabitants and the metropolitan area of Alicante-Elche in Account No. 725 395.

The most important festival is "the Fogueres Sant Joan" (bonfires of Saint John), better known as the Hogueras, which takes place over several days and whose height is 24 June with the burning of the statues characters made up for the occasion. The party is represented by a queen who is called "Bellea del Foc" ("Beauty of Fire").
Alicante is the headquarters of the Office for Harmonization in the European internal market for brands, designs and models.
