Cordoba is an ancient city in Andalusia, southern Spain. Rich in history and cultural diversity, it has been declared a World Heritage Site and offers visitors a taste of authentic Spain. Wide tree-lined streets with elegant shops and restaurants from the north part of Cordoba city centre, but the real attraction is the historic quarter in the south, the second largest in Europe. An enchanting network of small streets, squares and whitewashed courtyards are arranged around the world-renowned Mezquita, or Great Mosque of Cordoba, which sits grandly on the banks of the Guadalquivir River. North and west of the Mezquita lie the old Jewish Quarter, a collection of winding alleys dating back to the Middle Ages. On the outskirts of the city, the ancient ruins of Medina Azahara, a fortified Arab Muslim medieval palace city, are archaeologically significant as well as beautiful.
