Discover Bruges (Belgium)

Bruges is a picture-perfect medieval town in northwest Belgium not far from Brussels and France. Often compared to Venice, it too is perfectly strung around a network of enchanting canals under the serene gaze of the soaring Belfry Tower, an emblem of the city. Beautifully preserved historical buildings occupy narrow winding streets that are flanked by tempting chocolate shops, before opening onto grand squares such as the famous Grote Markt. Tour boats chug contentedly along the gleaming waterways as Dutch-, French- and German-speaking locals nimbly ride along cobbled streets by bike, and horse and carriages elegantly amble past the city's Gothic sights and museums. Bustling restaurants serve endless dishes of mussels and French fries or frikadeller simply french fries with mayonnaise washed down by fine, locally-produced beer. Saint Baaf's Cathedral resides in the nearby town of Ghent and displays magnificent artwork by Peter Rubens.
