Discover Split (Croatia)

Split is a picturesque Roman city in the central Dalmatia region of Croatia overlooking the crystal clear Adriatic Sea, and is a perfect jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding Dalmatian Islands. The largest of the Dalmatian cities, it is also the busiest, with a bustling harbour and lively atmosphere. Split's romantic old centre and UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounds an awe-inspiring 1700-year-old Diocletian Palace, with ancient Roman walls and monuments still visible today. Narrow, pedestrianised streets weave in and out of each other encircling the magical St Duje's Cathedral and bell tower. The Croatian National Theatre overlooks the stunning beachfront promenade lined with an array of cafes and restaurants. Across the water and easily reached by boat from Split, the island of Brac floats majestically in the sea as secluded beaches and quiet bays dot the sparkling coastline, backed by verdant rolling hills.
