Discover Paphos (Cyprus)

Paphos is one of the longest-established tourist areas on the island of Cyprus and it's a popular destination for travellers from all over the world who come to experience the fascinating Cypriot culture as well as the many attractions this Mediterranean spot has to offer.

There's a lot to see and do in this part of the island, but with car rental in Paphos you can really get out and about to explore the local area. One of the top attractions in the Paphos region is the Kato Paphos Archeological site. This is home to structures which date back to prehistoric times, although some of the most famous ruins date back to the time of the Romans. There are four ruined villas, all of which have stunning mosaics that show scenes from mythology and date back to AD100. There is also a small Ancient Odeon performance venue as well as one of Cyprus' best known sights, the Tombs of the Kings.

Another great site within easy reach of anyone who takes advantage of a car rental in Paphos is the Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery. This historic 12th century monastery is found in the Troodos Mountains' foothills and is also home to a museum which celebrates traditional Byzantine art. While visiting the monastery, it's worth taking a detour to explore the Paphos Forest, with its spectacular views over the hillside covered in cypress and cedar trees.

A family friendly attraction in the area is the Paphos Zoo. Located in a beautifully landscaped environment, this animal attraction is home to monkeys, tigers, giraffes, meerkats, kangaroos, lions and more. Its bird area is especially fascinating, housing over 200 different species.

The Troodos Mountains are also within easy reach of anyone who hires a vehicle during their stay on the island. As the biggest mountain range on the entire island, the Troodos is also home to Mount Olympus, the tallest peak in Cyprus. Visiting this region gives travellers the opportunity to discover traditional sleepy villages, olive groves and beautiful vineyards where you may be lucky enough to sample the local produce. There are also many authentic tavernas where you can try a local meze - a multi-course meal which is synonymous with the island. If you visit during the winter, you can even try your hand at skiing!
