Crete 4 day itinerary

Crete 4 day itineraryCrete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, 88th-largest island in the world and the fifth-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Crete is located in the far south of the Aegean Sea separating the Libyan Sea from the Sea of Crete. Crete is a popular tourist destination, with more than 1 million tourists per year, and a strong tourism sector. The municipality of Chania, Crete, covers an area of 824.9 square kilometres. The capital and largest city is Heraklion.

The first day:

Start your trip by exploring the Venetian port city of Chania. Wander through the narrow streets, taking in the mix of Byzantine, Ottoman, and Italian architecture. Don’t miss the Venetian lighthouse, which offers stunning views of the harbor and cityscape. In the afternoon, drive to the Samaria Gorge, one of the most popular hiking trails on the island. The hike takes around six hours to complete, but it’s well worth it for the incredible views of the Cretan landscape.

The second day:

On day two, head to the beach! There are plenty of beautiful beaches on Crete, but some of our favorites are Elafonisi Beach, Balos Beach, and Plakias Beach. Make sure to check out the waterfalls at Matala and take a dip in the therapeutic waters at Vai Beach. In the evening, explore Heraklion’s nightlife scene. There are plenty of bars and clubs to choose from, so you’re sure to find something to your taste.

The third day:

On day three, it’s time to explore some of Crete’s other towns and villages. Start with Rethymnon, a charming town with a well-preserved Venetian fortress. Then head to Agios Nikolaos, a small town on the north coast with a beautiful lake in the center of town. If you have time, visit some of the other villages in the area, like Plaka or Kritsa.

The fourth day:

On your last day in Crete, make sure to visit some of the island’s famous beaches. If you’re looking for a party beach, head to Malia or Hersonissos. If you’re looking for a more secluded beach, try Balos Beach or Elafonisi Beach. No matter what you choose, you’re sure to have a great time swimming and sunbathing on Crete’s beautiful beaches.
