Beauvais, France is nestled at the edge of wooded hills in the region of Picardy. A tour of this region would be incomplete without a visit to this industrious, historic town. Without a doubt, St Peter's Cathedral is compulsory on any traveller's itinerary.

St Peter's Cathedral is a Gothic architectural masterpiece. The choir vaulting stands at 46m tall, making this the tallest Gothic chancel in Europe. It has survived much structural damage over the years; including the vaulting falling in 1284, the 78m tower collapsing in 1573 and World War II bombings. From the 1950's to the 1980's, they removed iron ties, thinking that it would strengthen the weak roof structure. It did not have the desired effect. Temporary measures were put in place in the 1990's in an effort to stabilise the structure. In 2010, after many years, they successfully stabilized the heights of the nave. There are tentative talks of re-erecting the 78m tower now.

Intricately carved Renaissance and Gothic-styled doors and windows stained by master glazier Engrand Le Prins, inspire a deep sense of awe and reverence. In particular, in the south front, Biblical stories are stained in glass. God is depicted centrally, surrounded by the days of creation, surrounded by the stories of Adam, Noah and the various tales leading up to the Moses leading the Jews out of Egypt.

The Cathedral owns two clocks: the world's oldest chiming clock (made in 1303) and the Beauvais astronomical clock. The astronomical clock is a massive clock which consists of nearly 100, 000 parts. It is 12 metres in length and6 metres in width. It has 52 dials that show the waxing and waning of the moon, the sun's rising and setting, the planets' positions, the exact time of 18 worldwide cities, and the times of the tide.

With all this rich beauty, it makes sense that the famous designer de Givenchy hails from Beauvais, France!
