Basel lies in the center of Europe and is the third largest city in Switzerland. Home to approximately 166,000 this lovely city sits on the border of France, Germany and Switzerland. As a result it combines elements of the culture of all three countries. Basel is also one of the best linked cities in the region making visiting there very easy. It features three major railways and the Euro Airport which is only a ten minute drive from the city center. Below you can find out some of the major attractions you should see when you visit Basel.

Kunstmuseum
This Basel’s largest art museum and home to a fantastic collection of 19th and 20th century art works. Two of the major highlights of the Kunstmuseum include the Picasso room and the renaissance painting section. In addition to the Picasso’s, the museum also has work by other important modern artists such as Leger and Braque. Inside of the Renaissance section of the museum you will find works by Martin Schongauer, Matthias Grunewald and Konrad Wiltz. The museum is also home to the largest collection of paintings by the Holbien family in the world.

Basel Old Town
No visit to Basel is complete with time spent in Basel old town. Some of the historic buildings in the area date back as early as the 1400’s. Basel Old Town is relatively small and can easily be explored by walking around. There is also a number of guided walking tours of the district offered by the Basel Tourism Office.

University Of Basel Botanical Gardens
The Botanical Gardens at the University of Basel is home to a wonderful array of plant life. Some of the most see areas include the tropical rainforest and the gardens excellent collection of cacti. The Botanical Gardens is actually one of the largest gardens of its types in the Germanic region.
